Diana Fontaine and her 13 year-old buff male cocker spaniel named Mylo are best buddies. They’ve been best friends for the past seven years ever since he was given to her from a breeder. They’ve become inseparable over the years. “If he loses sight of me, he panics,” says Fontaine.

Apparently, Fontaine and Mylo are also Vancouver Canucks fans. Both can be spotted in their home town of Vancouver, Canada wearing Canuck jerseys. Fontaine dresses him up with various team colored outfits but ensures it’s nothing too feminine. “I don’t put anything frou-frou on him. It’s got to be boyish,” says Fontaine. Dogs wearing team colors is a growing trend in Vancouver. Owners make outfits for their dogs or purchase them in town. Ultimately, it’s a sign of affection Vancouver has for their canine companions.

Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue of New York held their first cocktail party fundraiser last month in Manhattan raising $25,000. Donations came from cocker lovers and corporate sponsors through ticket sales and silent auction. Attendees were treated with a live performance from Grammy Award winner Roberta Flack singing “Killing Me Softly With His Song.” One guest was lucky enough to win private singing lessons from Flack herself through the silent auction.

Abandoned Angels will use the proceeds to pay for veterinary treatment needed for the many cockers in their care. “We have a lot of dogs in our rescue that are waiting for medical treatments and surgeries, so we truly appreciate any help the public may offer,” said Madeline Elghanayan, co-chair of NY Abandoned Angels Rescue. Dolores Rodrigues, rescue founder, was pleased with the event turnout. Rodrigues continues to raise awareness of cocker spaniels in need–the breed she loves so much.

Texas cocker spaniel club member convicted

Sixty-one-year-old Betty McClendon, owner of B-Mac’s Kennels, member of Cocker Spaniel Club of South Texas, Secretary of Cocker Spaniel Club of Austin and Secretary of Cocker Spaniel Club of San Antonio, was convicted of 32 counts of animal cruelty (a misdemeanor in Texas). Her sentence of one year of jail was waived because of her age and clean record. Instead she will serve 15 days in jail and two years probation. As part of her probation she cannot own any animals or participate in animal-related clubs. She must also reimburse the SPCA for veterinary treatment provided to her cocker spaniels.

On May 29, 2009, deputy Bill Jenkins responded to an animal abuse complaint at Betty McClendon’s residence in Rosenberg, Texas. Thirty-two cocker spaniels were found in a hot shed stacked in cages. All were severely neglected some with maggots. One dog did not survive the ordeal. The animals were taken into custody by the SPCA.

Rescued Cocker Spaniels Get Spa Day: MyFoxHOUSTON.com

Bath day

Hoshi is looking very fluffy and neat. I gave him a bath this morning because his stinkiness was a 9 of of 10. He sleeping right now. I trimmed his face, ears, paws, and tail. That tail was getting really long. I’ll put his Frontline on tomorrow.

The pet store where my mom lives has a do-it-yourself dog wash. I’m going to take Beanie there Sunday and wash him up. Also going to have the groomer trim his nails while I’m at it.
