Raisin Tree Farms kennel in Fowlerville was raided Wednesday. Authorities seized over 90 dogs living in overcrowded cages stack on each other. Various breeds including whoodles, standard poodles and Soft-coated Wheaten terriers were found soaked and matted in urine and feces.

Proprietor Margaret Komorny was charged with animal cruelty to 10 or more animals. 76-year-old Komorny denies the charges: “I love animals. I’m devoted to animals,” she said. Michigan has no puppy mill laws and is part of the Midwest “Puppy Mill Belt.”

A breeder in Howell County, Missouri has agreed to surrender 135 dogs so she could close her business.  This was the breeder’s decision and not the result of law enforcement.  “I just think it got to be too much,” says Brian Thomas a statewide investigator.  “She couldn’t find anybody to help her.”

Cocker spaniels were among the 10 breeds surrendered. Humane Society of Missouri President Kathy Warnick said, “We will provide veterinary treatment, socialization and find them the loving homes all dogs deserve.”

Dudley the cocker spaniel was attacked by a roaming Staffordshire bull-terrier in the Battersea Square neighborhood of London, England. Niki Richards was walking Dudley close to home Wednesday when the attack occurred. The pit bull clamped down on Dudley’s ear and refused to let go (seen in the accompanying photo). Eventually, the pit bull’s owner arrived and beat his dog repeatedly in the head until it let go. Dudley was rushed to the local vet and had his ear sutured back together.
