Hoshi Bath Time

Hoshi is on a prescription shampoo for the “skin tags” all over his back. He’s supposed to get bathed every other week but I haven’t kept up. Well, the skin tags are worse and I’m probably taking him to a dermatologist.

Hoshi got is bath this past Tuesday including a flea bath. Gabby and Beanie have been scratching plus I found a flea on my ankle the other day. Fleas have been good so far this year. This is the second time I’ve found fleas this year.

Hoshi has had a problem with eye boogers. Problem is he won’t take eye drops. You’ve never seen a dog struggle over eye drops like Hoshi. He thinks he’s being killed. He actually wore me out several times and I just gave up trying. I was persistent though. I gave him eye drops after each meal and after 2 weeks he’s finally letting me give him eye drops with minimum fuss. His eye’s look better and I’ll have the vet check them out next visit.

Hoshi on medicated shampoo

I took Hoshi to the vet and showed him the bumps on Hoshi’s back. He said they look like cysts but wonders why he has them at his age (4 yrs). He thinks there’s a chance it may be seborrhea and started him on a medicated shampoo. If the shampoo doesn’t help he plans on doing a biopsy to find out what they are.

I also told him Hoshi was on a raw chicken diet which he didn’t like. He said it was incomplete and worried about salmonella. Funny how opinions among veterinarians vary. He gave me a web site for suggestions on adding to Hoshi’s raw diet to make it “nutritionally complete.”

Bath time for Hoshi

I found a flea on Hoshi last week and decided he needed a flea bath. Hoshi’s in his summer cut. I notice when I blow dry him he has hundreds of little growths/moles all over his back. Two are the size of match head. I’ll keep an eye on them. Hoshi’s hair is so fine I get “splinters” in my hand from grooming him. I have to be careful and use a brush instead of my hand to clean the grooming table. One cocker is plenty when it comes to grooming. My back aches afterwards.

Tomorrow’s garbage day

Tomorrow’s garbage day so everybody had their garbage out at the curb. Hoshi’s inspecting each bag as we walk by for anything edible. We’re walking by one yard when I notice a large rock by a garbage bag. Getting closer it looked like a large cat eating from the bag. Hoshi comes up to it. It lifts its head up (a huge possum). The possum’s like, “Where did you come from!?” and Hoshi’s like, “Nice night! Mind if I share your dinner?” Hoshi’s so food oriented he didn’t care about the possum.

Shaved Hoshi down. Lately Hoshi’s been sleeping on the cool tile floor. I figure if he’s this hot I’ll give him bath and shave him down. He was way past due for a trim.

Raw Chicken 1 year later

Lately, I’ve been thinking Hoshi wasn’t liking his chicken. He would turn his head away when I offered it to him or spit it out. I found out what was wrong. I wasn’t cutting the pieces small enough and he was having problems swallowing them. I cut the pieces smaller and no problems eating.

Here’s a picture of the chicken pieces I’m giving him now. About 1/2 the size they used to be. These are pruners I use to cut the bone. Hoshi could eat the bone whole but it takes too long. I also cut the bone into lengths I think are safe.
