This is Toot. She was gorgeous. Got her from a "reputable breeder". Came to discover later that other breeders did not like her. She was breeding dogs for show so took no interest in any problems that you had with one of her dogs who was only a pet. After attacking me on Christmas Day, 2003, she was placed in quarantine and went to the bridge 10 days later. I had gotten so I was scared of her. My Mom God bless her soul, used to say to me after an episode with Toot, you can handle 20 kids in a kindergarten room why can't you handle one little dog. When I called the breeder on Dec 26th to tell her what happened, she was out so I got her hubby who very coldly told me to put her down, the contract no longer applied. She did know I was having problems for almost 18 months. They all began after Toot was spayed. Whenever I would call about a matter, she would just say "Well I wouldn't let any of my dogs act out like that. I took Toot to a specialist in behaviour and even he was confused over the breeder's lack of concern.

I was saddened to learn Toot went to the Bridge. I remember you first posting her on MSN's My Cocker Spaniel. She was an adorable puppy. Do you remember the geocities homepage I made for her? I hope Deacon and Tynan were able to fill the emptiness after she passed.

Tynan was offered to me by his breeder on January 3rd. Ed had called her to complain that I was having her put to sleep. Betty tried to explain to him that I really had no choice. So about 2 hours later she called me and told me one of her dogs had had a litter on Jan 2nd. She had 4 pups and all were taken except Tynan. Did I want him? At that point I was broke and so nervous of taking him. I had only met Betty once in November at Ed's place. First impressions weren't too good for either of us but I learned that she was a loving caring breeder and was reminded not to judge the book by the cover. She said she did not need a deposit and that I had 12 weeks to save up the money. He was my heart healing soul dog.
Deacon is 2 weeks younger and came as a rescue to me through the help of people like our Kelly. He was neutered and sent to me from Florida. He's a big clown with lots of security issues. Over 4 years I still have not gotten him over his separation anxiety attacks where you would think someone was murdering him. He helped get me through a bad time. My Mom broke her hip on the Sunday in '04 and she knew he was coming up but never got out of the hospital to meet him. She passed away a week later. So both dogs have gone above and beyond for me. They are there for me when I am alone and depressed. They definitely try to keep me settled, happy and sane.

Toot was a beautiful dog. It is a shame that some breeders have no ethics. Its the dogs that suffer in the end.

So sorry about Toot. I'm glad you found theother two to help you thru the tough times tho. Thanks for sharing.

Toot was a cutie, but she was part devil, no doubt about it. Letting her go was a smart decision Maureen, even though it was tough as hell.

Wow...not sure I could have handled that at all. I had one who was a Jekyll-Hyde kinda guy. Playing all happy one minute and going for your throat the next for no apparent reason. I learned to live with it and recognized his signs and NEVER trusted him close to my throat. After he died I found an article that said dogs on Phenobarbitol are frequently known for that sort of behavior. He was on it from age 7 on to his nearly 15 years. There's one still in rescue that wants to attack. He's been in several homes already. Last home was promising as they sent the dog to boot camp but it did not help. Returned again. Not sure where he stands right now. Gorgeous little dog the color of cognac.

I'm so sorry you had to go through that with little Toot, she was a beauty. I had to put down a cocker due to Rage also. My heart to you. I know what you went through.

Here are a few more pics of Toot. I could not find them but someone else had kept a copy of them. I especially love the one near the mums our next door neighbour had. Funny but she was always in a coat with the long ears. Her fur rarely matted and she never ever had an ear infection like Tynan has on a perpetual basic.

I enjoyed looking at her other pictures. She was such a pretty girl. :)

What a heart breaking story, Maureen. God bless you, little Toot.
