Most of you know I use both traditional medicines and homeopathy.

This is from Dr. Dodds, who I really like. She a specialist in many areas including thyroid, epilepsy and a blood bank for dogs.

Garlic Powder *Make sure garlic powder does not have corn oil in it.* Canola oil is the only oil allowed* (can purchase garlic granules at Smart & Final --no oil in it at all and relatively inexpensive).* For a medium-sized dog, add 2 tsp garlic to food, in addition to using it in the ear.
*
Monistat *Get 7 duo pack.*Squeeze the ointment into the dog's ears twice a day, either before or after the garlic powder, OR, mix the garlic powder with the Monistat ointment to make a paste.
*
Oil of Oregano *Call the people at North American Herb & Spice Co at 800-243-5242.* The doctor who developed this stuff for people worked it out for the dog as well; amount is based on weight.*A medium-sized dog is given 4 drops of Oil of Oregano in food daily.*Can substitute Olive Oil

OR
*

Pellitol Ointment (Veterinary Specialties). *This antiseptic ointment contains bismuth, resorcinol, and juniper tar, and is very effective for treating acute and chronic otitis externa when packed into the ears. It is inexpensive, and forms a protective soothing coating of inflamed ear canals.

These are interesting alternatives. Have you tried the Garlic powder before? I'm seeing lots of posts with herbal remedies today. Should this go in the grooming forum?

My dogs get garlic powder in their food, as well
as oregano. I've not use it in the ear. I have used monoststat in ears and on poodle
feet.

I guess I put it in main section so more would see it, but move to wherever you think it should be.

Great info Linny. We sell the Oregano oil at VS. I take a herbal wild oregano VS brand daily to keep my immune up.. should have thought of it for the babies!
