Any Rescues??

3 cockers
Hi Everyone!

I've already spoken to a few rescues that I know of, but i was wondering if anyone knew of anymore... There are 3 cockers at my local shelter. 2 of which they want adopted together without kids. The other is desperately in need of being groomed.. No one that I have spoken to seems to have the room right now and I have a shepherd that has anxiety/aggression issues so I am not even able to foster. I will help with transport though...
I am located about 20 minutes north west of Pittsburgh, PA and about 20 minutes east of the Ohio border..
The one that needs to be adopted as a pair has been there for atleast 2 weeks and the other I just noticed at the end of last week... Here are the web site addresses..

Ah, Melissia, so you are the one that has sent me the email about these two. I wasn't even really sure who you were.

I'm at least 5 hours away from your location. There is an Ohio cocker group. Have you tried them?

Yes Linda,

They (CCR) have (I think) 7 in boarding right now, so they aren't able to take them in... I've also spoken to the lady that I have fostered for in the past, and she has 13 right now, just in her home... I thought maybe, with new people, someone may have another suggestion.....
And like I said, I can always help with transport.... I just traded my car in and now have a Trailblazer.. A little bigger than a Grand Am...

If you every visit the Zim forum (http://www.zimfamilycockers.com - click on the link to their Forum) they have a VERY active rescue section. They coordinate transports, getting dogs out of shelters, etc. That's how I know of Sara. I hope somebody can help.

Melissa,

anything for that little buff boy yet? Um, what do you know about him? Are you close to this shelter? I mean do you volunteer for them?

There might be a chance that CIN can help him. But, we would need to figure out transport.

Melissa, I would love to help but can't. I will try and think of some one who might be willing to foster. Between Bubby and my in laws Sheltie for 2 months who has all sorts of med problems too, it would be impossible. Could help a little financially if needed. Let me know what I can do. Peggy & Bubby

Linda,

As far as I know, he is still there. They are closed on Monday's, so there isn't anyone there that is going to answer the phone. No, I don't volunteer for them, however I have donated food to them when we had some at Costco that we were going to pitch. I am off tomorrow, if you would like, I can always stop up there and get some information from them about him. It is rather difficult to get through to them by phone. They really don't have as many vonlunteers as they used to and I just can't bring myself to do it.. I would love to be able to, but having to see the animals that would be getting euthanized would absolutely break my heart. Just let me know what you would like me to do, and i would be more than happy to do it..

Ok.. So I stopped out at the shelter this morning, and this is the info that I got...

The pair that they are looking to adopt together are guessed to be around 6-7 years old, and have been there since the end of November. (they definitely don't act that age) They are guessing that they are siblings. The male is an extremely friendly little guy who is enjoying playing with his little squeeker in the kennel. They were both to be fixed today although one of the part timers decided to feed them last night so that is being put off till tomorrow. The male recently recovered from an upper resp. infection and appears to be doing just fine. The female appears to be healthy, she does tend to growl/become aggressive when another animal approaches the male. The male doesn't tolerate being seperated from the female at all. They both need to be approached slowly, and they were very friendly towards me when I bent down to greet them in their kennel. It appears as if they have a foster family lined up to take these 2 after they are altered tomorrow. The foster family has already been approved. I definitely hope it works out...

The 2nd male has been at the shelter for a couple of weeks. He was a stray that was found in Aliquippa, which isn't the most pleasant of neighborhoods depending on the area. It is a rather poor community and does have a reputation for being a violent one at times. He appears to be 3-4 years old. They have him listed as a mix, but he desperately needs groomed. He is extremely matted and one of their volunteer groomers should be coming out soon to do that. He is a total wiggle butt. Very friendly when I approached the kennel and was licking my hand. He does have an upper resp. infection that is being treated with anti-biotics, and he is coughing quite a bit. They have him listed as not being good with children under 10, but they really aren't sure how he would react. He loves to play in the snow and enjoys nose diving... They do have a few names on his card as potential adopters, but they haven't started to call them yet. He was just released as a stray hold. He is not yet neutered. And he is the only one that they would consider being in danger of being euthanized at this time...

They do require references from any potential rescue facility looking to bring them in..

I'm so glad they found fosters for the two.. the other little one sounds like a love. Please keep us informed. He sounds like he won't have any trouble once they get him shaved down.

He's in danger of being euthanized? That aint happening. If he doesnt get adopted, I will foster him.

Mike,

I did give them my name and number and told them if any of the adopters fell through for them to give me a call. He was really a sweet boy and once he is groomed, I know his "true colors" will shine through. Janet, the lady that I spoke to, has been there as long as I can remember and she had pulled his card this morning to start calling people. She did put my name and number on the back of the card, and said that she would call if nothing came about. They do require references from any rescue that would like to pull a dog. I think the only reason right now that I was told from one of the vonlunteers that he would be in danger of being euthanized is because of his upper respiratory infection. His coughing is really bad, and I know they just don't have the funds to take on a dog that is really sick.
If it comes down to him needing pulled, I would be more than happy to meet you all half way or further if needed. I'm always up for a road trip..
