Riley's leg

Poor Riley, hang in there....sending out prayers for a swift healing.

The girls are sending out wiggles and slurrpy kisses.

Riley is still limping, or short stepping as the vet called it, but it seems like he's doing a little better. I hope that's not just my imagination. I told the vet Riley wasn't very active but all of a sudden he seems to want to go up and down the stairs a lot. Yesterday I had carried Riley upstairs to be with me as I folded laundry. The doorbell rang and he took off down the stairs lickity split so he could bark at the door.

Karen do you have any baby gates? Put one at the top and bottom of the stairs, this will help to keep him from sprinting up and down. Leashing him is another possibility. It is hard to keep them down.

Riley is still "short stepping" but Keith and I both see improvement. I'm really hoping he's going to be better. I'm going to visit family later this week so Riley will be crated for more of the day and I think that will help keep Riley less active. Keith will be home with them after work and will be able to judge if the improvement continues. I'm very happy to see some improvement since it would have been impossible to leave Riley in lots of pain. The little stinker will eat his steroid pills in cheese with no problem but has taken to spitting out the cheese with the pain pills inside. The Tramadol must have a nasty taste. I've been having to just put the pills down his throat. Or Riley could just be like his sister, Lauren, and hate taking pain pills. That will be hard for Keith who has trouble administering pills that way.

I'm glad he's feeling better. Crating sound like a good way to rest that knee. Some pills are really nasty! :x You have to be creative with pill taking. Gabby gets 4 pills twice a day in peanut butter. They have to be completely covered or he'll fuss. My mom's dog doesn't like peanut butter but loves macaroni and cheese--I hide them inside the macaroni.

Pebbles a few weeks ago jumped off my deck and broke her femer bone .. so she needed an expensive surgery ....yesterday we finally got the stitches out to only learn that she also has patella .....she is due tuesday for a 2nd opinion and hopefully she dont need surgery..but we will see.. and she is still limping on the leg that she had 2 pins inserted in for the Femer .. but they said it takes time until she will actually start walking right on that leg.

Poor thing. I hope Pebbles recovers soon. Don't be afraid of getting second opinions. My Gabby had TPLO x2 on the same leg. The second time the vet put pins on the inside and THE OUTSIDE. That was a difficult time. We went for a second opinion because things had gone so horribly wrong. A second opinion was the best decision we made.
