thankgodness for internet to help./..
yess we took her to the vet we had blood work done also it all came back fine. he said is a process of elimation now. i have read that cockers can get epalipsy. i have read up on that lots now. we he thinks could be an allergy so NO more people food that so hard she thinks we are punishing her or so we think that.. prolly just us thinking that way..I have kept a journal each time she has 1 and try to think what she has ate or done day before.
they are always in the morning between 8 a/m and noon
yess even with NO people food she has had them so now what??
i have even started to make her own treats from scratch Vet said that was o.k all natural.

just asking any ideas here what you all think..
thanks for listening Lori & Emma

Welcome northernbug. I'm sorry to hear Emma is suffering from seizures. :dog: I recommend having your pet examined by a specialist. Ask your vet for a referral to a neurologist. You can also find a neurologist by using the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialty Search.

Questions a neurologist may ask you concerning seizures:
  • When do they happen? Day or Night? If at night at what time? If during day what activity was pet doing at that time?
  • Did nausea or vomiting happen before or after?
  • What did the seizures look like? Do the limbs move together, only one side, in unison? Were the eyes or mouth closed?
  • Did the pet respond when called? When pinched or moved?
  • How long did the seizure last?
  • How did the pet act after the seizure?
  • Did it recover immediately? Did it act confused? Did it act very quiet?
  • Medical history.

Types of tests a neurologist might do include:
  • MRI or CT scan. More and more vets are providing these tests at their facilities. MRIs are better at diagnosing seizures.
  • Basic blood tests including sodium and glucose levels. Low glucose can cause seizures.
  • Spinal tap to rule out a neuro infection.

Selected Causes of Seizure

  • Brain injury or abnormality
    • Brain tumor
    • Cerebral dysgenesis
    • Cerebrovascular, degenerative, inflammatory/autoimmune diseases
    • Genetic disorders
    • Head trauma
    • Peri- or prenatal brain injury
  • Central nervous system infections
    • Cysticercosis
    • Encephalitis
    • Meningitis
  • Contrast agents
  • Epilepsy
  • Fever
  • Medications
    • Analgesics (e.g., local anesthetics, meperidine [Demerol], tramadol [Ultram])
    • Antibiotics (e.g., beta-lactam antibiotics, isoniazid [INH; Nydrazid], quinolones, some human immunodeficiency virus medications) Immunomodulators (e.g., cyclosporine [Sandimmune], interferons, tacrolimus [Prograf])
    • Psychotropics (e.g., antidepressants, antipsychotics, lithium, stimulants)
    • Theophylline
  • Metabolic disorders
    • Electrolyte abnormalities
    • Inborn errors of metabolism
    • Liver or kidney failure
    • Pyridoxine deficiency

Unfortunately, seizures are quite common in cockers, and they usually start around her age too. I've had several over the years that have had them. It would be a good idea to take her to your vet asap, and tell them the severity and the frequency they occur. They can prescribe several things to keep them under control. Phenobarbitol and Potasssium bromide are the 2 that are most prescribed.. although i prefer the bromide because pheno can cause liver damage when used long term. Other treatments can be simply holistic... depending on their frequency. Also, give her some vanilla ice cream or honey will help her when she comes out of it to get her glucose levels back up.
The good news is that they can live normal lives when treated properly. Some will continue to have them all of their lives, while others may outgrow them.
Best of luck to you.

Long Time ago we had a dog, (when I was a child) that had Epilepsy. My dad is a Pediatrics -Neurology, so we gave the same treatment like a human with fenobalvital (in Spanish). and he lived with us longer until we need to put him to sleep. I know is really sad when you see a dog to have seizure.
I have a 3 mo cocker spaniel and I did't know that they can have seizure, that this is common in this kind of dog.

So good luck with your dog and I only can offer a pray, I beleive that we can pray for our pet, because God is the creator.

I have a Testimony to share with you about prayer (pray to God); last thursday my Kandy get lost in a dark and cool night and with a lot of snow, and when my husband call me that kandy get lost, I started to pray, tempeture was low single digits, and we pray we all our heart to our creator, to our God that we can found her, let me tell you I was crying like if was one of my kids. I said to God, papito (Dad) you create kandy and you gave her to us, kept her alive in this cool weather, I believe that the same God who create me, create her, also I remember that I said that somebody can found her and keep her so she can not die in this weather. Guest what? after 45 minutes looking for her in the darkness, because I live in the mountain we do not have light posted in the road every thing was dark, somebody found her and they saw us looking for something and they asked to us what we was looking and my husband tell them our dog, and she gave the dog to us.:p

God is good if you pray with faith He will answer your prayer. Look for medical help, and follow the vet instruction, and will pray for you too.
